ABOUT OUR MISSION
And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled. The holy seed is its stump.
(Isaia 6:13)

The Meaning of "Stump"
A stump is the base of a tree that remains after it has been cut down.
It symbolizes the "remanant" the Lord has preserved by His grace.
The Ministry of Stump Mission
Stump Mission believes that just as Jesus chose unknown fishermen from the overlooked region of Galilee and entrusted them with the Kingdom of God, God's grace still preserves a remnant today among the poor, the oppressed, the indebted, and the marginalized.
We are committed to seeking them out, proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and finding the holy seed among them-those who will inherit and carry forward the Kingdom of God.

Our Approach & Goals
We use the gifts and vocations God has given us as avenues to connect with people and share the Gospel. Through these efforts, we form communities as the body or Christ, teach the Word, and send belivers forth as witnesses of Jesus Christ.
Furthermore, the vocations and skills used as instruments of the Gospel are passed on to the people in the mission field, providing a foundation for self-support. This empowers the next generation to carry forward this work, become self-sustaining, and share the Gospel with others.
Our primary ministries include relief work, medical care (clinics and hospitals), agriculture, education (preschools, elementary schools, middle schools, and colleges of health sciences), and ministry of the Word (churches and seminaries).

Medical Ministry
Following Christ’s example, we care for those suffering physically and mentally, support their healing and recovery, and share the Gospel so they may find wholeness in body and soul.

Education Ministry
Following the example of Jesus, who taught divine truth and wisdom wherever He went, we integrate biblical wisdom into academic education, equipping students to live as citizens of God's Kingdom.

Word Ministry
Proclaiming and teaching God's Word is central to our mission. Through biblical teaching, baptism, and discipleship, we establish and nurture churches, equipping believers to become teachers of the Word and prepare the way for the Lord's return.
A Brief History and Origins
of Stump Overseas Mission
The Beginnings of Stump Mission
Stump Mission was founded in South Korea in 1976, with a primary focus on reaching young people. Through evangelism, many came to know Jesus Christ and received discipleship training. Those who committed themselves to sharing the Gospel were commissioned overseas as vocational missionaries, using their professional skills and God-given talents as instruments for mission.
The Beginning of Overseas Mission
Stump Mission's overseas ministry began in 1985 with the commissioning of its first missionary, Kim Soon-ae, to the Philippines. Through the establishment of a local mission foundation, Stump Mission Inc., a framework was created to facilitate the overseas deployment of vocational missionaries.
Building on this foundation, Stump Mission in South Korea began commissioning missionaries to various countries in 1987, marking the expansion of its global mission work.
Overseas Mission Support Ministries
As more missionaries were sent to serve in different countries, the need for effective missionary care and support became increasingly important. In response, Stump Mission decided to relocate its Overseas Mission Headquarters from South Korea to New York.
In 1989, missionary Kim Soon-ae was sent to New York to oversee the overseas mission ministry. This strategic transition opened the way for Korean-American churches and believers across the Americas to provide prayer and financial support, helping missionaries establish and sustain their ministries around the world.
The Closure of the Headquarters and the End of Missionary Support
Despite its active ministries in Korea and overseas, Stump Mission faced mounting difficulties, leading to the dissolution of its Korean headquarters in 2004. With the dissolution, centralized missionary management and support from both Korea and the United States came to an end.
From that point on, the missionaries remaining in the field had to sustain their ministries and raise their own funds without the support of the mission headquarters. While some remained faithful to their calling and continued serving in their assigned fields, others joined different mission organizations to ensure the continuity of their ministries.
God’s Grace for the Stump that was Cut Down
Like a tree cut down and left as a stump, Stump Mission faced a season of great hardship. Yet the missionaries who remained in their fields stayed faithful to their calling and continued serving alongside the people among whom God had placed them.
In His abundant grace and faithfulness, God sustained these missionaries, enabling them to take root once again and bear fruit through their continued ministries. Though the supporting structure had disappeared, the calling God had entrusted to them remained.
The Need for Prayer and Support
As the missionaries continued their work independently, the need for prayer, fellowship, and practical support became increasingly evident.
In response, Stump Mission Inc. was reestablished in New York, USA, to provide prayer and support for missionaries who had been trained through Stump Mission and had remained faithful to their calling over the years. This renewed effort sought to strengthen those who had persevered in their mission fields and help them continue the work entrusted to them by God.
The Reunion of Stump Missionaries
Stump Mission Inc. in New York has since developed partnerships beginning with Botswana and extending to Zambia, Zanzibar, the Philippines, Tanzania, Spain, Bangladesh, and other regions.
In October 2025, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Stump's overseas mission ministry, an Anniversary Worship Service and Ministry Update was held in New York. Seven Stump missionary families from around the world gathered under the theme, “Make Straight the Way of the Lord.”
The gathering was a time of repentance, spiritual renewal, unity, and encouragement, centered on four commitments: repentance, holiness, love, and testimony. The missionaries shared their journeys, gave thanks for God's faithful protection and guidance, comforted one another, and renewed their commitment to remain faithful to their calling to the very end.
Our Mission Today
Stump Mission Inc. in New York exists to pray for and support Stump missionaries faithfully serving around the world. We also maintain fellowship with missionaries who were trained through Stump but now serve with other mission organizations.
United in Christ, we seek to strengthen those who continue to carry out the Gospel ministry and work together to prepare the way for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mission Fields
We currently support and collaborate with missionaries serving in seven countries:
